Spend management is the systematic process of tracking, controlling, analysing and optimising all the money a company spends with outside suppliers, from large contracts to employee expenses and card purchases. It brings procurement, payments and supplier management together so spending decisions are visible, compliant and good value.

Uncontrolled spending can cost companies 10% to 20% of the savings they could otherwise achieve.

4. Review the biggest categories regularly and compete them when the market allows.

Spend management software and AI classification remove most of the manual work, but the discipline of policy, measurement and follow-through is what makes it stick.
